Going fishing on Fraser Island? Here are some local tips to help you bring home fish for dinner!

World famous fishing spots such as Sandy Cape, Waddy Point, Indian Head, and Middle Rocks attract Tailor, Whiting, Trevally, Flathead, Tuna, Dart, Bream, Mackerel and Shark. It is the beach fishing on the eastern, ocean side of the northern half of the Seventy Five Mile Beach that lures many anglers.

July to November is the perfect time to fish for Tailor as huge schools spawn in the beach waves.

Wathumba Creek is home to many mud crabs as well as great fishing, but all the coast between Rooney Point and Moon Point can yield whiting, bream, dart and flathead. Plus, there are always plenty of yabby patches on the island.

Just remember, freshwater fishing on Fraser Island is prohibited but ocean fishing is a popular pastime and there is always something to be caught!
